You want to know how to check your google rankings? Do you have a website and you need to know where it is ranking on google? Then you have come to the right place. In this article we are going to talk about 4 ways in which you can check your website ranking. Without wasting much time, let us go straight in.
Method #1. Manual Google Search (Basic Method).
The first way of checking google ranking that we are going to talk about is the manual method. This will of-course require your personal efforts. If you are looking for an easy automated method, then this is not for you.
To do this, open Incognito Mode in your browser (so results are not influenced by your search history). Then search for your target keyword. After google loads the results scroll through the results to find your website. You might have to click next page and next page again until you reach where your website is ranking. After you find your website note down your position. And just like that you know where you are ranking on google.
If you do not find your result in the first 100 results (page 10 of results) then you can easily conclude that you are not ranking for that keyword.
Method #2. Local Rank Checking (For Local SEO).
If yours is a local business, you will have to use a little different method to see your ranking from the method 1 above. The method above is for general websites that are just available on the internet.
With a local business you will have to use certain prompts on google to refine the results. You will have to use keywords such as “Near Me” to tell google that this result is location specific. When you use “Near Me” google automatically knows that you are looking for a business geographically near you. For example if your business is a local restaurant you can search “5 star restaurant near me”.
Once you search that, google will show you the famous Google My Business GMB results snippet. In that snippet, search through to see if your business is ranking. To see more results click on the “more places” button below the snippet to go to the full GMB page. See the screenshot below for an example.

Method #3. Use Google Search Console (Free & Accurate).
This is the best if not the most used method of checking your google ranking. The google search console, is the most used tool by webmasters allover the internet for google ranking. Most SEO experts use it because it is from google itself. Hence the data can be trusted. The data is clear and accurate. In addition to that, the data is very up to date. Google updates every day for your google search results. The best part of this is that it is free. You do not have to pay to use the GSC.
To use GSC go to this gsc link and choose your website. By this point we believe that you have already added your website to the gsc. Once you go to your website/property, click on the performance option on the left menu. See the screenshot below for that.

Once you do that, GSC will display for you the search results of your website. Usually this will be the last 3 months. You can click on the date option as shown in the screenshot below to change the duration of the results.

Once you click that option, it will show you the popup shown below where you can choose the date range you want.

Once you set the correct date range that you want go through the results to see what you are ranking for. Google search console will show you the Average Position to see where your pages rank.
Choose any of the tabs shown in the screenshot below to choose whichever data set you want.
On that tab, you can choose between queries(keywords you are ranking for), pages, countries, devices, search appearance and date. That kind of data is powerful to give you all you need to know about your website ranking. To get more data on any keyword, go to the queries tab and choose whichever keyword you want to know more. Then click on it. It will load a new display where it will show you everything about that keyword from total clicks, to total impressions, to average CTR to average position and so much more.
Remember for all this datasets and displays, you can always change filters to get different results or better results. Additionally, you can change date ranges, change search type and much more.
Method #4. Use SEO Tools (More Detailed & Automated).
If you want more data than even GSC, then you can try third party SEO tools. However, you must be ready to spend money. Most of these tools are not free. These SEO services that they provide are premium since they are in that business. If you wish to learn more about these tools in-detail, you can visit this article How to Check Google Rankings: 10 Ranking checker tools (Free & Premium).
